Bremen’s low-emission zone came into effect in January 2009. It covers the old quarter, the eastern suburbs, parts of Schwachhausen and a large part of the Neustadt district. The exact area can be found on the low-emission zone page on the website.
From 1 July 2012, entry into Bremen’s low-emission zone (LEZ) is only permitted for holders of a green disc or with special dispensation.
The special dispensation applies to coaches that do not have a green disc and that cannot be upgraded for technical reasons. However, they are permitted to drive in the low-emission zone with a yellow disc, provided dispensation from the Roads and Traffic Authority has been obtained. Coaches displaying a yellow disc must present written confirmation that the vehicle cannot be upgraded. This must be issued by a vehicle inspection station (e.g. TÜV or DEKRA in Germany) or comparable authority. No further inspection will take place. Special dispensation applies for a period of 18 months.
